After completing my first semester of college at Asbury University I packed my car and was headed home for Christmas break on December 13, 2012. On the way home I fell asleep at the wheel and hit a guard rail head-on. As a result of my accident, my left leg was severely injured. My femur was broken and I had suffered a “degloving” injury to my foot and lower leg. I had 3 surgeries at the University of Louisville attempting to save my leg from amputation. However, after the doctors made it painfully clear I had a very slim chance of gaining the use of my foot and ankle even after several more months in the hospital as well as many more surgeries; I made the decision to amputate.

My left leg was amputated below my knee on December 20, 2012. I left the hospital on December 24, 2012. Amputating my leg gave me the best chance of getting back to what I love the most… Playing Volleyball. Being back on the court with my college team is my primary goal. While I was in the hospital, my mom was given Daryl’s contact information. And from there the rest is history. I received my walking leg on Valentine’s Day 2013. I received my running blade right after the Color Run in March 2013. I’m excited about the future and I’m excited to see the plan God has for me. I am very thankful for Aaron the Amputee Blade Runner organization. Because of the amazing work they are doing, I walked out of Aaron’s office exactly 2 months after my accident!
